MIAMI SWIM WEEK WITH TRESemmé PART 2

To say the weather in Miami was misbehaving, is to say nothing at all. Sure it was hot, but I can honestly tell you, combined with 100% humidity the blazing heat is really something. It is precisely the kind of wether that makes you want to abandon everything in favor of taking a nice long soak in the pool and staying there till sundown. But I had people to meet and shows to attend since as I have previously mentioned, I partnered with TRESemmé to attend Miami Swim Week this year, so  spending most of my time underwater was not an option:)

As part of this collaboration, I got my hair styled daily and I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was and how much I appreciate TRESemmé's Perfectly un(Done) line of products! You see, from the moment I stepped off the plane, I had what I would consider pretty legitimate concerns about my hair staying in tact given the weather in Miami. Partially, because my make-up melted off my face within 5 minutes of walking out of the airport and my hair did exactly what it  always does in extreme humidity ( a half curly, half straight, frizzy mess which can be described best as a homage to a bird's nest ) but mainly because my poker-straight fine hair doesn't hold hairstyles very well in perfect weather, let alone in 100% humidity:) Luckily, I was wrong! I was very, very, wrong! Not only did my hair behave ( no frizzy mess ), the hairstyles held up beautifully throughout the day and much to my delight looked just as well hours after I got them done! And so, since I am sure most of you are just as committed to fighting frizz as I am and have an appreciation for long-lasting voluminous hairstyles, I thought I take this opportunity to talk about exactly what my TRESemmé stylist did and which products he used on me.

For Mara Hoffman presentation, I chose to go with a fun little cobalt blue number, so I wanted a hair-style that would be equally fun, flirty and girly. To complement this look, we decided to go with voluminous, textured waves with straight ends.

1. Once again, I started by washing my hair with TRESemmé Perfectly un(Done) Shampoo followed with TRESemmé Perfectly un(Done) Conditioner.
2. To add body to my hair, the stylists applied about 3 pumps of TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam to damp hair, distributed evenly throughout the entire head and blowdried my hair straight.
3. Next, the stylists curled medium-sized sections with a flat iron to create bouncy, textured waves rather than ringlets.
4. Once my hair was curled, the stylist applied a few spritzes of TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray and scrunched the waves for a sexy, tousled texture.
5. He finished the look with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hold Hairspray.

I chose a beautiful lace two-piece set to wear to MIKOH presentation. Since the outfit had a slight romantic reference, I wanted a hair-style that would complement this look. I also wanted something a little more effortless and easy to help downplay the dressiness of the ensemble. And so, we decided to go with one of my favorite hairstyle ever: soft, beachy waves! To re-create this look, you can repeat steps 1 & 2 from the style above, but use a large-barrel curling iron to create soft waves instead of the flat iron and finish with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hold Hairspray for all-day hold.

On my last day in Miami, we wanted to create an effortlessly tousled look to complement my sheer, embroidered floor-length dress, and I think the mega voluminous waves ended up working absolutely perfectly! Super simple to do, you can just repeat steps 1-3 & 5, then apply a few spritzes of TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Perfecting Gelee to create definition while taming the frizz and flyways.

P.S. If you have questions about any of the hairstyles or products, shoot me an email any time, I'll be happy to answer! :)

Never thought that I'd get on board with high-waisted skinny jeans, yet lately, it's been all about that particular denim style for me. So good with pretty much any top imaginable, love the way they elongate the silhouette and accentuate the waist. The pair I'm sporting in today's post is my latest discovery and obsession. Aside from the fact that I really love the way the higher waistline is balanced by the cropped length, they have just enough stretch to hug you in all the right places... :) And... and this one is really important to me, the stretch helps to maintain their fit throughout the day! You see, there is nothing I hate more than skinny jeans getting loose at the knees and saggy around mid-section. I just feel that it makes you look disheveled and messy. So naturally, when I find a pair that looks good after continues wear, I am one happy girl!:)

Yet another one of my outfits comprised entirely of old and new favorites! These snake-print Aquazzura heels and Marc Jacobs Trouble bag made countless appearances on this blog before and realistically speaking, will continue to make even more:) Though I am not a fan of matching my shoes and bags, I do love it when they happen to go together and this pair, is what I would call a match made in heaven:) Aside from the fact that they are basically made for each other, the reason I love them so much is because they are a perfect example of those dressed up neutrals I am so fond of. Their ability to complete any pastel ensemble is just astounding... and of course you know how I feel about pieces with special details like lacing, metal chains and straps...

The playsuit is new, I got it just last week and our bond is growing rapidly:)! Love absolutely everything about it, from the prettiest, softest shade of pink, to the uber sophisticated combination of long sleeves and high neck! So chic, yet so fun and playful, I am seriously having trouble wearing anything else:) So far, I've worn it three times, and I have a feeling this is just the beginning:)!

SUMMER STRIPES

One thing is certain, LA temperatures have officially become unbearable! HOT and HUMID, it feels like you you're in a sauna every time you step outside! Though I feel kind of silly complaining about the warmth and the sunshine because I am usually such a summer girl, nevertheless, lately I find myself longing for fall and somewhat more habitable temperatures:) You know, sometimes a girl just wants to enjoy her day without make-up melting off her face and frizzy hair...

As tempting as it is to hide from the heat indoors, daring to venture outside only in the evening, Emil and I are not really indoors kinda people. So, we've been trying to avoid the heat by spending the majority of our time in Malibu, which tends to be a bit cooler.

Funny, after hanging out in Malibu for years, we thought we knew all the cute hangout spots but I guess we were wrong:) Our latest discovery and obsession - The Malibu Cafe. Love the rustic decor, outside pool tables and paddle boat rides. Also, if you happen to find yourself there at dinner time, definitely try the Board, the olive bread is absolutely amazing!:)

MY TOP 6: BEST BRONZERS & HIGHLIGHTERS

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal

If you read my blog on regular basis, you probably know that when it comes to make up, bronzer & highlighter are the two products I can't live without. In fact, I would say that they are basically the starting point of any look I create regardless of whether I am going for a simple day-time make-up or full on dramatic night-time one. As I was chatting about a few of my favorite bronzers & highlighters with Ninel recently ( my best friend, partner in crime and fellow make-up addict ), we realized that most of our all-time favorites are unsurprisingly the same. Unsurprisingly because... well, let's face it, not all bronzers & highlighters are created equal. The good ones can help you achieve that beautiful glowing skin, and the not-so great ones go on unevenly or look entirely to sparkly:) And so, Ninel and I decided to collaborate on a post featuring our top 6 favorite bronzers & highlighters.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, best highlighter

BRONZERS:

I love to contour with the NARS Laguna bronzer because it’s completely matte and gives me that shadow-like effect I’m looking for when contouring. I like placing it in the hollow of my cheeks, right below the cheekbone, to make my cheekbone appear higher. I also dust a bit on my forehead around the hairline and the jaw line. Most of the days though, I like my skin looking natural and bronzy as opposed to contoured so I go for bronzers with a bit of shimmer in them. Tarte’s Park Ave Princess bronzer works well for me. It has just enough shimmer to give my skin a bronzy glow yet it doesn’t have those heavy sparkles and overbearing shine. I also found that the bronzer Ulta makes is a great alternative. Again, it provides the glow without the heavy sparkles.

HIGHLIGHTERS:

As far as highlighters go, I have a few favorites. The one I use on a daily basis is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. It’s such a beautiful and subtle highlight. The powder is so extremely fine, it blends into my skin and gives me the most natural looking highlight. It has no specs of gold or any heavy shimmer so it’s perfect for every day looks. I dust it on my cheekbones, and a little on the center of the forehead and chin.

The NYX Liquid Illuminator brings the sparkle when I need it. If I feel the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is not enough on a certain day, I apply the NYX Liquid Illuminator underneath it (on the cheekbones only, it’s a little much for the forehead and chin). That way, I get the beautiful glow and a little sparkle. Another favorite highlighter of mine is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal (pressed). I definitely reach for this one when I’m looking for an intense highlight with a wet-like effect on the skin. The formulation on this one is amazing; it’s a powder yet it’s a little creamy, and it applies beautifully. I like to apply it on the cheekbones and the cupid’s bow. It also works really well as a brow bone and inner corner of the eyes highlight so it’s definitely a multi tasker.

P.S. I am working on a step-by-step instructional post to show you my go-to bronzed & highlighted skin make up look. It's coming up in the next 2 weeks, so stay tuned:) Meanwhile, if you have any questions about products or application, please feel free to email me any time!

Not usually a fan of floral prints, falling in love with this muted grey, black and white number came as a bit of a surprise! Most of the time, I find floral prints a bit too busy or loud, yet there is absolutely nothing overpowering about this understated floral print. Quite on the contrary, the overall effect I think, is rather soft and elegant.

Initially, I envisioned pairing it with a leather jacket and a pair of black sneakers but I suppose the girly side took over and I couldn't resist wearing it with heels. Come to think of it, I couldn't resist quite a few things... like waiting to wear it on a trip I specifically got it for, rather than donning it on a  weekday afternoon outing with my hubby:) But of course, at this point I've come to accept the fact that I lack self control when it comes to cute new dresses:) ... and shoes, and bags and pretty much everything in between. Basically, if it's new I need to wear it right away, regardless! Does that happen to you guys too?

FAVORITE MAKE UP LOOK: BRONZED SKIN & CORAL LIPS

Since I've been getting quite a bit of emails asking about my make up, I thought it'd be a good idea to do a step-by-step instructional on how to re-create one of my favorite make up looks. The beauty of this particular look is that it's really simple to do and you can use your favorite products.

I always recommend using really good brushes, like EcoTools ones for example. When it comes to make up, blending is everything, and good brushes really get the job done!:) Though I've used quite a few different brushes in the past, lately I've made a switch to EcoTools ones. Aside from the fact that they are made from eco conscious materials and are animal cruelty-free, something that's really important to me, they also  perform absolutely beautifully! Finally, and I am sure this will come as no surprise if you read my blog on regular basis, the reason why this is my go-to make up look is because it's super versatile. A great day-time look, you can wear it pretty much anywhere from work to school and everything in between:)

To my younger readers who've been asking me about a good back to school make up look, I say bronzed cheeks and matte coral lips make a great first impression and always look fresh:) Obviously I am a huge cat-eye liner fanatic, but for school, you guys may want to keep it a bit more natural by simply lining closer to the lash line and not extending so far beyond the corners of the eye!

Step 1: I've mentioned before, I am not a huge fan of foundation, and wear it only on very rare occasions. So today, I simply applied an oil-free moisturizer with an SPF and followed with concealer   one shade lighter than my natural skin tone. Normally, I apply concealer using EcoTools Eye Perfecting brush from the Complexion Collection by dotting it under the eyes and around nostrils. Reason why I like using this brush is because it helps to really spread the product evenly and ensure everything is blended perfectly:)!

Step 2: To set the concealer and control shine ( since my skin does tend to be on the oily side), I applied translucent powder using EcoTools Mattifying Finish brush from the Complexion Collection. Quick tip: make sure you are applying the setting powder very lightly and delicately, to avoid that caked-on look.

Step 3: Whenever I use both bronzer and highlighter, I generally opt for a matte bronzer to avoid looking too sparkly. I also love using matte bronzers to contour my face because they really help create that shadow-like effect I am looking for. Using EcoTools Angled Kabuki brush I applied bronzer in the hollow of my cheeks, right below the cheekbone and I also dusted a bit on my forehead around the hairline and the jaw line.

Step 4: Since I am not a particular fan of super matte face, highlighting is basically a number one obsession of mine! Aside from the fact that a well placed highlight brings a bit of light to your complexion, it also helps to create that beautifully glowing skin! For today's look I wanted to create a very soft and subtle highlight, so I applied a powder highlighter using EcoTools Delux Fan brush to cheekbones, cupid's bow, bridge of my nose and chin.

Step 5: After applying a bit of sparkly gold eyeshadow all over my upper lid, I applied gel eyeliner using the Define brush from the EcoTools Eye Enhancing Duo Set along the top of my lash line extending beyond the natural outer corner to create my favorite cat-eye look.

Step 6: Generally speaking coral is my favorite lip color, so soft and pretty, I think it looks absolutely beautiful with bronzed skin. To finish this look, I used one of my favorite lip products of all time, i.e. Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Niagara Overlook. Aside from color, what I really like about this one is the fact that it doesn't dry my lips but actually moisturizes them and since my lips tend to be a bit dry, that's really important to me:)

That is it for this make up look! As you can see it's pretty easy to create, but just in case you have any questions about tools or application, email me any time, I'd be happy to answer!

After wearing blazers and low-rise skinny jeans for what seems like an eternity, I felt like I was finally ready for a new uniform. While playing around with a few different jean styles I very quickly realized, nothing feels quite as right as a tucked in boxy tee and mid-rise skinnys! So good with pretty much any shoe style imaginable, from boots to stilettos, I also love the fact that you can easily dress this combo up or down. Worn with heels and a clutch, this combo feels very chic and fresh for night, but add a pair of flats and a cross-body bag and you got yourself a cute daytime look:) Basically, the possibilities are endless, and of course you know how much I enjoy that!:)

After spending the day sailing in San Diego recently, I realized two things. First, sail boat and I were made for each other and I could sail all day every day. In fact, I should probably make a sail boat my permanent home and wake up every morning to the sounds of waves and the smell of the ocean... Realistic? Probably not, but a girl can dream:)! Second, it is very difficult to achieve any degree of gracefulness ( since full on gingham skirt & top combo evokes exactly such a feeling ) while your husband is singing "I'm on the boat..." from Saturday Night Live. Yeah! That's my boy! Always serious:)! Despite his best efforts, we did manage to shoot a few presentable ones. So, I hope you enjoy:)!

As much as I gush about my love of new things, the truth is, I really enjoy being in a committed relationship with more than a few things in my closet. Take this IRO blazer or Stuart Weitzman loafers for example, I've had them for about a year and a year and a half respectively and haven't looked back! Thinking about what it is that makes an item a time-tested favorite for me, I believe it's actually the combination of two things, i.e. looks and substance. Obviously when it comes to clothing or accessories they way they look is important, yet I find that how you feel when you wear that certain item plays an equally important part. If something doesn't feel good on, no matter how beautiful it is, it will inevitably end up in the back of your closet forgotten in favor of something a bit more comfortable. Well, at least that's how it is for me:) And so, when I find something that's beautiful inside and out ( and also possibly happens to work with 80-90% of everything I have in my closet ) I tend to hold on!:)

Up until recently, I could not have imagined a day when going out was no longer about highest heels possible, and yet, this day has arrived. Flats have officially became my footwear of choice!

I suppose this sudden change of heart is in large due to this Summer's soaring temperatures. Don't know about you guys, but comfort is pretty much my one and only concern in 100-degree weather! Or at least being as comfortable as I can possibly be:)

Yet, what may have started as a simple nod to practicality, with time turned into a complete and utter commitment to the way flats complete outfits in a very free-spirited, nonchalant kind of way. And sure, I am a little late to the "I LOVE FLATS" party! But I think considering what a huge high-heel addict I truly am, better late than never!:)

Finally found my perfect statement jacket I intend to wear with everything this Fall! So good with jeans and a simple little t-shirt, yet equally impressive over a flowy dress or skirt. Love that! Not a big fan of plain when it comes to outwear, I always look for pieces with special details. And this fringed perfection has them in abundance! The combination of suede, fringe and stitching details definitely gets my hear racing:) Have a feeling you're gonna be seeing quite a bit of it on this site! Hope you don't mind!

Though there are about a million reasons why I love San Francisco, as of our last trip there, SF weather goes right at the top of that list! After hot and humid LA summer, it felt so nice to spend a few days in what I would call, normal, human temperatures:) Incidentally, being able to wear some of my new fall favorites didn't hurt either:)

Now that we're back in blazing hot LA getting ready for Fashion Week craziness, I can't help but plan another trip there... The sooner, the better!:)

Coffee is my biggest vice! I think I could theoretically function without chocolate, pasta and pizza, but life without coffee seems completely meaningless:) I tried quitting coffee a few times mainly because it's a stimulant and because drinking too much ( which I certainly do ) is not great for your skin. There was even a brief period when I managed to stop drinking coffee completely, yet every time I passed by a coffee shop the smell of freshly brewed coffee seemed to call my name. Didn't get better with time, in fact, it felt like I missed coffee more with each passing day:) I "unquit" drinking coffee after an especially exhausting week and decided that perhaps some vices are ok in moderation. So, I've cut down considerably. One cup a day, no more! That's the new rule and so far I've managed to stick by it!

Pretty long speech but I promise I have a point!:) The reason for all of the above is that while we were in San Francisco, we found the greatest coffee shop ever! So, if you happen to be a coffee fanatic like I am, you should definitely stop by Four Barrel Coffee. One word, amazing! Love, love, love their coffee and their butter croissants! Come to think of it, maybe I have two vices because in my book coffee and croissants are a one package deal! Right? :)

Wearing one of my favorite jackets of all time, and in one of my favorite cities too:)! I've had it for a while one, and always marvel at it's ability to complete any look from casual jeans and a tee pairing to a dressier dress & boots combo! In full Fashion Week prep mode, I stopped by one of my favorite stores on Melrose Place, aka Elodie K to find what is probably the most gorgeous dress I've ever laid my eyes on! Though I am a huge fan of Dodo Bar Or in general, this piece in particular left me speechless! I mean, the combination of an easy silhouette, buttery-soft suede and intricate studding on hem and sleeves is just out-of-this world amazing!

Today, I paired it with a fringed perfection from Paula Cademartori and stunning Elodie K jewelry, but I already have a million ideas about how to wear it next! Ankle boots and a nice cross-body bag, for instance, would look just as nice or if I was going a bit more dressy, I would perhaps pair it with suede strappy sandals and a black clutch! At any rate, the possibilities are endless and of course you know how I feel about that!:)

Good morning, Everyone! Hope you week is going well so far! I wanted to take this opportunity to say a quick hello and share a few things which are making me very happy at the moment!

1. EOS shaving cream! One word - AMAZING! I know I raved about it on this blog before, but honestly, the more time we spend to gather, the more I appreciate all the wonderful things it's doing for my skin! Love the fact that I can use it on wet or dry skin, love the yummy scent but most importantly, I love how moisturizing it is! After trying a few different products, this one is the only one that leaves my skin soft and smooth.

2. I am completely addicted to pretty florals! I simply cannot help it! Something about a beautiful pastel bouquet lifts my spirits no matter what! Though I love flowers in general, lately it's been all about roses in various shades of pink and of course hydrangeas. When it comes to roses, I like a very simple, monochromatic bouquet, but with hydrangeas, I take a slightly different approach. I like to pair hydrangeas in various pastel shades, ranging from a very soft pink to a deep lavender to create an ombre-like effect.

3. Macarons! In one of my recent posts, I bragged about coffee being my only vice. As I was writing said post, I discovered that I am also a little more than partial to croissants. Well, in a spirit of full disclosure, apparently I have 3 vices in life: coffee, croissants and macarons. I am sure there is more, but those are the only ones I can think of right now:) Secretly, I call macarons little bites of happiness. Really, can you have a bad day if you start with a nice cup of coffee in the morning followed by a macaron? I think not! :)

4. Off-the-shoulder tops! I think shoulders are pretty much one of the sexiest and most beautiful parts of a woman's body and I can't think of a better way to accentuate their beauty than by wearing a pretty off-the-shoulder top. Sexy, yet rather elegant, there is something particularly feminine and romantic about them! Oh, and don't get me started on how versatile they are! So good with jeans or denim cut-offs yet equally appealing paired with more tailored pieces like structured skirts or culottes!

5. Rose-gold jewels! I don't know what it is, but I think I am becoming more and more girly with each passing day:) Right now, I am borderline obsessed with rose-gold jewelry! Partly because it's oh-so very pretty but also because it pairs so beautifully with my beloved pastel palette! Gorgeous on it's own, yet equally amazing mixed with white or yellow gold pieces. There is literally no wrong way of wearing rose gold! Love that!

Though I have to admit, I am a little more than partial to lavender in general, this particularly soft shade is definitely one of my favorites. So elegant and feminine, I just love the way it pairs with metallics and my beloved rose gold in particular. Because the dress is such a statement maker, I chose just a few sparkly pieces to complete this look. A far cry from my usual heavily-embellished fingers & wrists, I guess... But when a dress just happens to be the most stunning combination of color, cut, pleats, movement and length, simple accessories are the way to go:) N'est-ce pas?
