Feeling Tropical

Yet another one of those outfits which combines all of my current staples and favorites: a wrap-around crop top in a fun print ( really feeling a cute tropical print at the moment ), a deconstructed denim mini, and a wear-anywhere bamboo bag. Great together and paired with other off-duty staples, love all of these items because they are comfortable to wear, go with pretty much everything imaginable and are statement enough to make any look just a bit more special.

What about you guys, what are your staples at the moment?

Dior Backstage Favorites

I think what I love the most about having this blog is the fact that I get to share my obsessions and favorites with people who are just as passionate about fashion and beauty as I am. I love being able to tell you about the newest beauty can’t-live-without product I’ve discovered and hearing your thoughts and opinions on it!

Well, today’s post is a great example of that! Though I’ve used Dior beauty products for a very long time, the new Backstage collection has taken over my make-up bag completely! If you’ve been following me for a while, you may already know that when it comes to make up, I tend to gravitate towards a more natural look for day, and go for drama at night. The reason why Dior Backstage palettes really resinate with me is because they allow me to not only build up the coverage and intensity, but also offer a variety of shades perfect for day or night, depending on the look I am going for!

Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation – I was so excited to try out this foundation ( actually this backstage collection in general! ), and it certainly did not disappoint. What I loved the most about this foundation is how easy it was to blend ( it melts into your skin and looks very natural with a slightly matte finish ) and that you can build up the coverage by layering the product ( it’s medium coverage as is but can definitely be built up to full coverage ). I love that you get to choose from 40 shades and find one that fits you just right. It’s waterproof and sweat-resistant which makes it an amazing foundation for summer ( it’s been insanely hot this last weekend in LA and this foundation survived the heat ).

Dior Backstage Contour Palette – love this contour palette because it’s so compact yet has 4 different shades which give you an option of creating a more natural or really sculpted look. For a more natural look, I liked using the Contour Light shade—it gave me a very subtle contour that looked more like a shadow as opposed to an obviously contoured look. Contour Deep is what I used when I wanted that very sculpted cheekbone look. Layering them together works really well too—I like to sculpt with the Deep shade and bronze up the rest with the Light shade. The two highlighter colors on top are very natural looking and perfect for everyday ( aside from using them on my cheekbones, I like using them as my brow bone highlight for a subtle glow ).

Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette – another great super compact palette from this collection. It packs two highlighting shades and two blush shades. I loved both of the blushes, easily blendable, and pretty universal. The gold highlighter shade is perfect for that stark highlighted look – sweep it across your cheekbones and you’re glowing! I liked using it on my collarbone and shoulders as well to add some glow to my body. The lightest highlight shade is definitely for someone with lighter skin than me so I wouldn’t use it on my cheekbones but it’s great for inner corner of the eyes and the cupids bow.

Dior Backstage Eyeshadow Palette – this eyeshadow palette pretty much includes all of my favorite and most frequently used shades so it’s been my go-to palette as of late. It’s a mix of matte and shimmer shades—I typically use matte on my crease and put shimmer on my lid. With the shade range, it’s easy to go natural or go for a full blown smokey eye. Also love that it includes a primer right in the palette, how convenient is that?

Something that I didn’t quite appreciate at the beginning but grew to love about these palettes is how convenient they are when you are traveling. The variety of shades gives you an option of creating more than a few different looks ranging from subtle for day-time to dramatic at night, they are very compact, so they take no space at all! Obviously, for someone like me, who spends most of the time traveling that’s really important!

Staples & Favorites

What makes a piece of clothing a favorite, a staple, that one item you always reach for and love wearing again and again? For me, it isn’t just a one thing, it’s really a combination of wearability, versatility, fit and how I feel when I wear it. This particular set I got from mytheresa.com ( my go-to shopping destination for the latest luxury items and hard-to-find any where else must-haves ) is a great example of that. Can’t really tell you what it is about that I love the most, the style ( high-waisted shorts and crop top combination is what I currently live for ), the light-weight fabric that works equally well for a day at the beach or in the city paired with boots and a cool bag, or is it the intricate detailing which is almost always present in Zimmermann items. Perhaps, it is the combination of all the above, but whatever it is, this is definitely a two-piece that I will have, wear and love for years!

Speaking of mytheresa.com, I’m an avid online shopper. Initially, I started shopping online mainly because of my travel schedule and busy schedule in general, but now I mostly shop from the comfort of my home because of the experience it offers and the ease with which I can see and find the exact thing I am looking for. The reason why mytheresa.com is one of my current favorites is because aside from offering the best selection of the newest and latest, I often find things there I cannot find anywhere else ( if you happen to be a fan of Isabel Marant there selection is unlike anything else ), like the pretty Zimmermann set I am sporting in today’s post or the Rag & Bone straw fedora I simply cannot get enough of! So, if you happen to love shopping online as much as I do, you guys should definitely check it out!

Special thank you to ShopStyle and mytheresa.com for partnering with me on this post.

As much as I hate talking about wear now and later pieces in July, it’s hard to avoid the subject when it comes to this particular look. Some of the pieces I’m wearing in today’s outfit are new ( welcome Balenciaga bag & mules! ) others, I’ve had for some time now, but what unites them in general is the fact that though I can definitely make use of them now, I can also restyle them  once the weather gets a bit colder.

These pants in particular have been a closet staple for a while now. Love them paired with a crop top and cute heels now, I’ve worn them in colder weather with a tucked-in sweater and ankle boots and they looked just as great. The same goes for this top, obviously a cute crop-top option to pair with anything high-waisted, in the fall or winter, I often layer it over a white turtleneck and it never fails to impress.

Basically, once again trying to make a case for versatility because I love being able to wear my favorites year round and these particular pieces definitely fit the bill!

Summer Whites

What is it about a white dress that makes it such a summer staple? Personally, I can’t imagine my summer wardrobe without one or two, or a few really, because you really can’t have too many. Whatever it is though, I think at the end of the day, it’s probably my favorite thing to wear anywhere! A vacation must-have, a summer in the city staple, come summer time, a little ( to big ) white dress is always at the top of my shopping list, so I figured I’d take this opportunity to share a few recent finds, obsessions and favorites.

I’ve been meaning to add a white eyelet mini to my wardrobe for some time now, and this cute little number is proving to be versatile beyond all expectations. Perfect option to wear just about anywhere: from beach, to city, to a wine tasting in Santa Barbara, I love the way it transforms with a few simple accessory changes.

For today’s look, I opted for a pair of lace-up espadrilles and a basket tote, but it takes on a whole new life when paired with boots and a leather cross body. Also, love the way it works as a beach cover-up. I believe I’ve mentioned before that to me, a good cover-up should work well at the beach, but also at dinner later, and this dress certainly does! Love that!

Living in Lavender

I can’t really say that I have a favorite brand. Things that I like change from season to season. This year in particular has been all about LoveShackFancy for me. Pretty, comfortable, easy to wear—I love their pieces not just because I can wear them pretty much anywhere but also because they have longevity, something that’s really important to me when it comes to summer staples. Though I’m certainly mindful of trends and always pay attention to what are some of the key pieces of the season, I also love stocking up on pieces that I can wear year after year, especially like the dress pictured in today’s post.

Love everything about it—the soft color palette, the understated floral print, the shape, the off-the-shoulder neckline, the light-as-air chiffon fabric which comes to life with every step you take. Love at first sight, I’ve actually been on the hunt for this dress for a while now but it sold out on most of my usual online shopping destinations, so I’m glad to say that I finally found it on Shopbop, which as of recent, has become my go-to place for those hard to find items.

But speaking of Shopbop, as I have mentioned earlier, I mainly shop online. Aside from the fact that I don’t usually have the time to go shopping ( work schedule tends to be pretty crazy and unpredictable ), I truly enjoy being able to shop from home at my own convenience. Reason why I love Shopbop in particular is because it offers really good variety of both contemporary and designer brands I love, and they tend to update their “New Arrivals” section pretty frequently, so I can always find something new I love!

For this particular look, I opted for a cute straw bag (I just can’t get enough of those lately) and ribbon ankle tie sandals, but I love just as much how it looks in a city paired with leather mules and a leather cross body bag or simply a more structured bag, the possibilities of wearing it are endless, and I don’t think I have to tell you guys about how much I love that!

Special thank you to ShopStyle for partnering with me on this post.

Ditsy Florals

It’s funny, but for years prints and especially floral prints were definitely something I purposely stayed away from. Too girly or too pretty, most of the time floral prints felt entirely too busy to me, and so solids is what I would gravitate towards. This year is different though. All of a sudden, ditsy prints feel very romantic and elegant to me, because these very soft prints rarely take over a garment but rather create a subtle texture which tends to add a layer of interest to a look.

Case in point the gorgeous, vintage inspired LoveShackFancy dress I am sporting in today’s look. Though overall the vibrant blue color certainly serves as a focal point, the soft pink and cream print adds a very feminine touch to this pretty midi number.

This dress in particular is probably one of my favorites at the moment thanks to the pretty combination of silhouette, colors and fit. Easy to wear, easy to style, it is the perfect example of my style motto – wear whatever feels good on and makes you feel good, and so because of that it’s been in heavy rotation as of late. Great option to wear to a casual dinner with my husband or a trip to a Sunday farmer’s market! Love that!

Picnic at Eiffel Tower

Definitely a dream come true, I’ve been planning this picnic ever since I came to Paris for the very first time. Not entirely sure why it took so long to make it happen. Personally, I blame it on the fact that most of the time, our Paris trips are work related and our schedule tends to get in a way, but it was definitely worth the wait!

As we sat on the banks of Seine, watching the beautiful Paris sunset and waiting for the Eiffel Tower light show, it occurred to me that I really can’t remember the last time we took a minute in Paris just to take it all in. Somehow it always ends up being that go, go, go type of a situation, so we never really hit the pause button, live the moment, and truly see just how wonderful and magical Paris is! Well, this time around we did, and the experience was truly unlike anything else. I never realized just how calm and peaceful Paris can be, and to take a moment to realize it’s quiet beauty was definitely life changing! Basically, our new Paris tradition, honestly, I can’t wait to do it agin!

I think red  has always been one of my favorite colors… I don’t know what it is really, but something about wearing this particularly vibrant hue makes me feel the happiest! I also noticed that whenever I shop for something, my eye naturally gravitates toward this color, which is probably why my collection of red pieces is always expanding! Today’s little red dress is my latest find and newest obsession. Flirty and fun, it has this incredibly easy, summery vibe, yet I also appreciate the fact that it can be dressed up with just a few accessories for a polished look and feel. Love that!

Polka Dots In Paris

$

A huge fan of midi dresses in a classic black and white print in general, I think this polka dot number I wore on a recent trip to Paris has to be my current favorite by far! A great wear whenever dress ( I can’t believe I’m talking about transitional pieces already… yet, it is mid-August and fall is just around the corner ), I think what I love about this one in particular, aside from fit and movement of course, is the fact that I can wear it during the day and at night with equal ease.

Obviously great for day with cute flats, sneakers or even ankle boots, it transforms into a cute cocktail option with a simple swap of accessories ( enter high heels and a polished clutch ). Another reason why this is a current favorite is this sort of season-less quality it possesses. Sure it’s a summer dress, yet I could easily see myself wearing it come Fall with leather jackets and ankle boots, or denim toppers and sneakers. Basically wear all year long kind of a dress ( I know this one will come handy during Holiday season ), I am always happy when I can wear something I love year round! Don’t you?

Positano Guide

One of my favorite summer vacation spots in the world, I fell in love with Positano the moment I saw it! Incredibly picturesque and romantic, no matter how many times I visit, it never quite loses its magic for me and keeps me coming back again and again. Though it’s not a very large city, Positano has quite a bit to offer, so I thought it might be kind of fun to compile a list of my personal Positano must-dos and sees.

The beach! Well, obviously! One of my favorite beaches in the world, when we get to Positano, we spent most of our time at the beach. Positano has both – public and private beaches, but I seriously suggest opting for the private option. Though it’s not cheap ( 25 euros per person for the first row, and 20 euros for the rest ) the private beach tends to be a lot less congested, and the fact that you get a comfortable beach chair/bed and an umbrella is a game changer for me. I mean, if you intent to spend an entire day at the beach, you definitely want to be comfortable!

Drinks with a view – a definite must in Positano! Well, drinks or any meal really, because the views are absolutely incredible! Favorite spots include Hotel Il San Pietro di Positano, Le Sirenuse Hotel Champagne Bar, L’Ancora Hotel and Franco’s Bar! Even if you’re not staying at one of the hotels I just mentioned, you can always come in for a drink, though I definitely suggest making a reservation since these places tend to be pretty popular.

Though there are many wonderful restaurants in Positano, in addition to dining out, we can never resist indulging in fresh fruits and vegetables! Last time we were there, I honestly think I must have eaten my weight in peaches and now that we’re back in LA, I can’t seem to find anything that tastes quite as good! So, definitely go for it while you’re there!

Take time to explore! We always do, and the below spot we found on one of our recent adventures is a new favorite! The views are amazing, and though it takes about 15-20 minutes to get there by taxi ( if you google Belvedere dello Schiaccone you should be able to get the exact location ) it’s definitely worth it!

What about you guys, do you have any Positano favorites I should check out on our next trip?

A Day in Ischia

Ischia captured our hearts the moment we got there. One of the most beautiful, romantic, friendliest and loveliest places in Italy we have ever been to, though we’ve only got to spend a day there, it made quite an impression. Ischia has a lot to offer, so in the future, I think we’ll aim to spend at least 3 days there in order to truly take in and appreciate all the diverse activities and things to see on this island. But if you only have a day, here are my absolute must-dos and sees.

Castello Aragonese – this medieval castle offers absolutely breathtaking views. Head over there around sunset to see the city in the most romantic, magical light, wonder around the gardens, and enjoy a quiet moment at Caffetteria del Monastero ( a pretty little indoor/outdoor cafe located right in the castle ) sipping a delicious latte or freshly squeezed orange juice.

Make a stop at Sant’Angelo (Serrara Fontana) to wonder around the marina, enjoy a day at the beach, and get a bite to eat at the La Tavernetta del Pirata. Their lobster pasta was absolutely delicious, and chilled limoncello was just the perfect thing to enjoy on a hot summer day!

Wander around! Take time to explore the city, we came across this pretty fruit and vegetable stand by complete accident and ended up spending at least an hour talking to the owner, and stocking up on our favorites ( i.e. peaches )!

Off-Duty Items to Love Now & Later

As I may have mentioned before, I do most of my shopping online. First, there is of course the convenience of it ( being able to shop anytime and anywhere fits rather nicely into my busy schedule ) but also, I love the fact that it doesn’t take me ages to find exactly what it is that I am looking for!

As any other avid on-line shopper, I have my patterns and habits and shopstyle.com is usually my starting point when I’m searching for an item. I first discovered ShopStyle a couple of years ago and have since become quite an addict. The reason I love it so much is because it allows me to search multiple retailers, compare prices, shipping options, and it includes product images which make searching for an item ( Balenciaga S Sneakers for example, are currently pretty high on my must have list )  incredibly easy. But I have since grown to appreciate ShopStyle’s Blog i.e. Editor’s Picks section as a great resource to discover latest and greatest, must-haves for upcoming season, and the coolest trends before anyone else.

For example, tough I don’t love thinking about transitional pieces and must haves for fall in August, fall/winter is upon us, so I am definitely mindful as far as trends for upcoming season are concerned. Recently, I’ve been updating my wardrobe with a lot of wear now and later classics like button down shirts and denim separates ( click here to check out some more of my favorite basics ) but also adding must-have fall accessories like the beaded bag I’m sporting in today’s look to my wardrobe.

I’ve been on the hunt for this particular bag for quite some time now, a hot item to sport this summer, it will definitely be something to wear this fall as well! Reason I love it is versatility of course! Cool with other hero pieces for upcoming season, wear your beaded bag with ankle boots, dark denim, and plaid blazer for day, take a walk on the wild side and pair it with something animal print for a bold statement,  or add a playful element to your party look by pairing it with leather trousers, bow blouse and mules! Sold out everywhere, I finally found it on ShopStyle of course ( click here to check out more accessory must-haves ) and I couldn’t be happier! I opted for the one in white, but I am definitely more than a bit partial to this version in black.

What about you guys, do you use ShopStyle to discover upcoming trends, find your new favorites or to seek inspiration? If yes, what do you like about it the most?

Power Pieces to Invest In This Season

$

What is it exactly do we mean when we talk about power pieces? Well to me, a power piece is a statement maker and has a certain outfit making quality. It is that one thing that takes your look to the next level and makes it current and off-the-moment. The beautiful thing about power pieces is that every season offers a slew of them and you can definitely find something that fits with your sartorial esthetic and style.

As far as power pieces are concerned, I tend to lean towards accessories. A statement shoe or bag can instantly take a look to the next level, not to mention the fact that an accessory has versatility that items of clothing rarely do. I mean, I wear my favorite shoes and bags all season long with practically everything which is one of the biggest reasons I tend to invest in those pieces.

This season, one of my favorite power piece/must have trends are western boots and the Isabel Marant pair I am sporting in today’s post is the newest addition and current favorite. Love them because they add that perfect touch of drama to my beloved basics but also because they never fail to make an outfit look a little more “now”! So good with skirts and dresses, I love them with minis but also with anything in midi length when they just peak out slightly. Another reason why I’m obsessed is because though I am certainly able to wear them now, I can easily incorporate them into my cold-weather wardrobe by pairing them with trenches and oversized slouchy coats.

Got them on a recent trip to Neiman Marcus, along with the Sea by Chloe turtleneck and Rag & Bone belt bag, I am wearing in today’s post. Neiman Marcus has always been one of my favorite places to shop because I can always find all my favorite premium and contemporary designers in one place. As much as I like shopping I rarely have the time to search for things, which is why I appreciate the convenience of being able to shop from a single place, get inspiration, and make mental notes of things I may get in the future. Currently the list of mental notes is getting rather lengthy, but then this season offers such a wonderful selection of power pieces and must-haves it’s hard to stick to just a single one! I mean hello 80’s, animal-print accessories and combat boots!

What about you guys, what are some of the power pieces you’re accepted for at the moment?

Though I am always tempted to sleep in when I’m on vacation, one of the best perks of getting up early is having a place all to yourself for a moment! This was especially true for Capri. A popular tourist destination, Capri is particularly lovely early in the morning. There is a quiet charm about wandering around the empty streets, taking a bit of sun out on the docks and catching an early morning boat ride!

Definitely  one of our favorite places in Italy, I love Capri because it offers the best of just about everything, from wining and dining, shopping, to beautiful beaches and incredible boat rides. The latter being our particular favorite!

Birthday Girl

It’s funny, but as much as I believe in the importance of unwinding and taking time for yourself, I actually rarely do. A day here and there, but mostly not so much! I suppose we don’t always practice what we preach, and in my line of work things tend to come up last minute which makes vacations something of a luxury, difficult to schedule and take, even if I wanted to.

But this year the stars aligned just right, and for the first time in 7 years, I managed to carve out an entire week to spend with my family ( who are in town visiting me for my birthday ) and I must say, I’ve definitely been missing out! Though a week doesn’t seem like a very long time, somehow at the end of it, I feel more inspired, more together and ready for new challenges, more relaxed, recharged and ready for whatever tomorrow may bring! It’s really amazing what a week of lazy beach days, long dinners, late nights binge-watching Netflix can do for you! Currently contemplating/aiming for another week around Holiday season, but until then, I aim to find more ways to relax and unwind but also, allow myself to be lazy every once in a while.

Things that seemed to work rather well in the past for me were staycations ( mini vacation is better than nothing at all ), spa days at home ( a perfect excuse to get all your girls together and try every beauty product imaginable ) and super lazy days at home ( comfy pjs, take out and Netflix ), but what about you guys, how do you unwind?

NYFW: Purple Rain

Are you guys loving the 80s inspired silhouette this season as much as I do? Because I simply can’t get enough! Case in point, this gorgeous Isabel Marant number I wore during New York Fashion Week. Edgy yet elegant, I love this particular one because of the color ( this shade of purple has always been a favorite for me ) but mainly because of the fit and cut! Cinched waist and exaggerated shoulder, oh and of course there is also that asymmetric hemline which tends to create beautiful movement with every step you take!

Though obviously a perfect cocktail hour option, I actually love the way this dress takes on a whole new life when you dress it down. So good with the “Ugly White Sneaker”, love the way it wears with flat ankle boots and a midi coat or trench. Basically, this dress is not a one hit wonder, and of course you know how I feel about that!

Accessories to Invest in This Season

If you visit this site on regular basis, you probably already know that in my book, accessories make an outfit. Unlike anything else, the right accessory has the power to transform a look and take any outfit to the next level. Though there are always many statement making accessories to choose from, when it comes to investment pieces, longevity and wearability is what I look for. Basically, before buying I always ask myself: will this piece be on constant rotation, can I wear this in a multitude of ways and will it stand the test of time? If the answer to all 3 is yes, I know that the item is worth the splurge!

This post happens to feature two of my must-haves this season – Dior book tote and a pair of Chanel combat boots.

Love this tote because it is such a graphic piece which means that it has that wow factor that tends to elevate your everyday basics.  But the reason why I haven’t been able to part with it since I got it is because is pairs equally well with casual and dressy items alike. Beautiful with casual separates and sneakers, it works just as well paired with midi dresses or skirts and boots. Another reason is  – comfort! Great for everyday, travel and for the beach, it’s fits all of my necessities and more. Love that!

Combat boots are everywhere this season! The one shoe style you definitely need in your closet, what makes them particularly relevant this year is the fact that they are worn with everything: dressy and casual, jeans and lacy dresses, denim cut-offs, patent minis, tailored suits and anything else you can think of! Love this pair because it definitely has that combat boot look, yet there is a certain elegance about them which tends to work so well with the dressier pieces. The other day, I paired them with an ankle-length white lace dress and a simple top handle bag and they definitely added a perfect touch of edge to an otherwise very feminine look.

What about you guys, what are you splurging on this season?

Personally, I couldn’t be happier to see the return of this equestrian-inspired cult classic, i.e. the Dior Saddle Bag. A huge fan of the original style which was introduced in the 90s, I love the reimagined version just as well. Sleek and stylish, it is certainly an outfit maker – a quality I always look for when it comes to accessories, I also love the fact that though it is a fantastic day-bag option to pair with pretty much anything, it’s perfect for cocktail hour thanks to the removable long stop. I opted for a more dramatic strap option because black leather/rich burgundy canvas pairing adds that special touch to some of my simpler day looks, brings a perfect pop of color to my monochromatic ensembles and lastly, creates a dramatic focal point regardless what I wear.
