TAKE ME TO THE BEACH

Though I love Palm Springs ( our last two visits here& here ) and always look forward to spending a few relaxing days indulging in some pool time fun, when the temperature climbs up all the way to 117 degrees ( 47 degrees celsius ), even I, a person who normally loves the heat, find myself wishing for a slightly cooler weather:) Thankfully, out of the 4 days we spent in Palm Springs last week, only Thursday was this hot, and the rest of the time it was really quite lovely, so we've had ample opportunities to work on our tans!

Surprisingly, when we got back to LA, even though it was only 90 degrees ( I say only in comparison to 117 in Palm Springs ), it felt like we literally stepped into a sauna! Hot and humid, I honestly feel like it's the latter that always makes LA feel hotter than it actually is! And so, after hopping from one air-conditioned space to another for a few days, we decided to pack up and head to Malibu, which tends to be quite a few degrees cooler than LA. Well, Malibu did not disappoint, because it was perfect in every way imaginable! Warm and sunny, with just a hint of that cool breeze that makes spending time at the beach so much more enjoyable!

Though we tend to spend majority of our time in Malibu at the beach ( so my wardrobe mainly consists of swimsuits and floppy hats), I always make sure to bring a few cute cover ups and fun sandals with me. The beyond gorgeous embroidered tunic and mini skirt from Tory Burch I'm wearing in today's post, are definitely my favorite at the moment! Love, love, love everything about these pieces! Gorgeous color combo, perfect easy-breezy silhouettes, and the mini skirt has that twirl-worthy factor I can never quite resist! For today's look, I paired them with another favorite, i.e. Aquazzura pom pom sandals ( last seen here ). Firstly, I love the white, blue and red color combo period, but mostly, I kinda think that these babies make every outfit a little more fun!:) And I don't know about you guys, but for me, beach outfits are all about color and fun!:)

LITTLE RED DRESS

I think I've always loved the color red... I don't know what it is really, but something about wearing this particularly vibrant hue makes me feel like me the most! I also noticed that whenever I shop for something, my eye naturally gravitates toward this color, which is probably why my collection of red pieces is always expanding:) Today's little red dress is my latest find and newest obsession. Flirty and fun, it has this incredibly easy, summery vibe, yet it's oh so très chic at the same time! Love that!

I wore this outfit to a dinner with Emil the other night. We went to one of our favorite restaurants on Abbot Kinney and knowing that Gjelina has a very relaxed atmosphere, I wanted to wear something cute yet not too dressy, so this look felt quite right. Though I certainly love the way this dress pairs with heels, I wanted to continue with the casual theme of this look, so I went with a pair of cute Soludos espadrilles. Speaking of footwear, if you've been reading this blog for a while, I'm sure you know what a huge high-heel fanatic I am, or rather used to be, because I realized that I spent the majority of this summer in flats. It wasn't really a conscious decision, and I think the change happened very gradually, but I slowly began forgoing heels in favor of cute flats and especially espadrilles ( another favorite pair here& here ). Of course only time will show whether my new found love of flats is here to stay, but my poor feet have been enjoying a well deserved break from sky-high heels I normally torture them with, so I feel that our chances are pretty good!

CHANEL BLUES

Well, my obsession with vintage and hard-to-find designer favorites has reached absolutely astronomical proportions recently! It all started a few month ago, when I spotted a Chanel canvas tote in an old magazine and fell in love with it the moment I saw it! I looked for it everywhere, I think I called every Chanel store in US hoping they could find one for me, but alas, I got the same response wherever I called. The bag was no longer available, and my chances of finding one were pretty much slim to none.

Though I have to admit I nearly gave up looking for it a few times, something about that particular bag stuck with me and so I continued my search hoping against all odds I might come across it somewhere. Well, I suppose my persistence paid off because I was browsing Trendlee's New Arrivals section late one night, and there it was, staring right at me, available and ready to ship!:)

The first time my new canvas Chanel made an appearance on this blog, I've gotten quite a few emails asking what my experience buying designer second-hand was like, and the best advice I could give in this particular case is the following. If you're thinking about investing into second-hand luxury, buying from a trusted source is a must. Reason why I chose Trendlee is because they had a certificate of authentication, and a really good return policy which made me feel secure splurging on such a big purchase.

Today's cobalt blue velvet Chanel Boy bag is my latest Trendlee splurge! I've had my eye on it for about 3 year now, but had a hard time fining one in this beautiful vibrant blue color. Naturally, when I spotted it on Trendlee, I knew it was fate! Aside from color and the fact that I have a weakness for Chanel Boys in general because they have a completely magical ability to elevate any outfit, something about the size of this bag makes it particularly versatile! So good with any night-time looks, I also love the way it pairs with casual pieces and adds a bit of drama to simple everyday staples! Basically, I can wear it with anything! And of course you know what a fan of this particular quality I am!

I don't normally wear maxi dresses, yet... every once in a while, if I happen to come across something particularly special like this off the shoulder mint dream dress for example, I don't mind making an exception! Perfect in every possible way, I really can't decide what it is that I love most about it, the color, the off the shoulder factor, or the movement ( you know how much I love dresses that move  - another twirl-worthy favorite here& here ). Perhaps, it's the combination of all of the above, but whatever it is, I am completely and utterly obsessed with it at the moment!

MY NIGHTLY BEAUTY RITUAL

$

My mom is definitely one of my biggest beauty icons. In fact, almost everything I know about beauty, I've learned from her. How to make a simple at-home face mask to help calm down my sensitive skin, what to do if my nails became dry and brittle, how to brush my hair so that it would grow longer faster, she just always knew what to do and was a constant source of some of the best beauty tips and tricks I now use on daily basis! Though she's given me quite a few wonderful tips over the years, the one beauty advice I adhere to religiously is the nightly ritual. Every evening, before I go to bed, I take care of my hair, skin and body.

But why is nightly ritual so important? Well, aside from the fact that new skin cells tend to grow faster when you sleep, during the night, our skin goes to work to repair damage and to restore our complexion, so a great night-time skin care routine is an absolute must. I've shared my morning routine with you in the past, but I haven't really talked about what it is that I do at night, so I'd like to take this opportunity to discuss my evening ritual a bit.

Normally, I start with my hair. I have to admit, that I haven't always been so diligent about brushing my hair at night. But about a year ago, I decided to give it a try and brushed my hair every night for seven days straight, and I can't tell you what a difference simple brushing made! Soft and shiny, my hair hasn't looked this good in years! Naturally, I was hooked, so now, I brush my hair every night for about 10-15 minutes using a paddle brush with natural boar bristles.

Next is the face. I've talked to you at length about my skin care routine in the past, so you probably know that at this point in time my main goal is to prevent and to correct. Living in California, I spend quite a bit of time in the sun, so if I'm not careful, I tend to get those pesky little dark spots around my cheeks and nose. Recently, I started using RoC RETINOL CORRECTION Sensitive Night Cream to firstly, even out discolorations, prevent fine lines and wrinkles, and to smooth the skin. I've heard a lot of really great things about retinol, like the fact that it's recommended by dermatologists as one of the best age-fighting ingredients, but also that retinol boosts collagen and speeds cell turnover, so I was really eager to try it for myself. After speaking to Dr. Dhanal G. Bhanusali, MD, a leading New York-based dermatologist, who gave me a bit more background information about why retinols are such incredible products because they stimulate cell turnover ( almost like a superficial peel ) and remove the excess debris that clog pores, I am definitely happy I did! What I like about RoC RETINOL CORRECTION Sensitive Night Cream in particular is the fact that it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, and I can see and feel the difference in my skin. It's much softer but also the discolorations around my cheeks and nose started to fade to the point that they are barely noticeable. Dr. Dhanal G. Bhanusali, MD also suggested using retinol products, like the RoC RETINOL CORRECTION Sensitive Night Cream at night because exposed pores and increased cell turnover leave you a bit more vulnerable to UV rays. So now, every evening I apply about about a dime size of RoC RETINOL CORRECTION Sensitive Night Cream followed by RoC RETINOL CORRECTION Eye Cream to even out dark circles, and to prevent lines and wrinkles. I also use sunscreen during the day to protect my skin from burns.

Last but certainly not least is nail and body care. I've always been able to grown my nails long due to the fact that I never go to bed without moisturizing my hands. Currently, I use coconut oil, which is honestly one of the best moisturizers I've ever tried. I start by massaging coconut oil into my hands, paying special attention to cuticles, next I apply coconut oil to my legs, feet, elbows and knees, which tend to be particularly dry areas for me. The whole process takes no time at all but next morning you wake up with baby soft skin!

GIRLFRIEND JEANS & PRETTY TILE MOMENTS

The pair of jeans I am sporting in today's post is the end result of a very long search for that elusive perfect-fitting pair of girlfriend jeans. Why am I so obsessed with this particular pair? Well, first of all, I love the idea of girlfriend jeans in general. Not quite as loose fitting as boyfriend jeans, but also not as tight as skinnies, basically, girlfriend jeans are a fine example of a perfect balance between the two fits.

In the past, I've been able to find a pair that fits right or a pair that has just the right amount of distressing, but I've never been able to find a pair that combines all of the above. Well, up until now that is:)

For today's look I paired them with a cute embroidered Alexis top and my go-to shoe at the moment - Gianvito Rossi sandals. But I also love the way they pair with a more casual top ( like the one I'm wearing in this post ) and pretty espadrilles ( obsessed with this pair at the moment ). Basically they are a perfect pair of jeans to dress up or down, and I don't know about you guys, but I definitely love being able to wear my favorites in a variety of different ways!

CONFESSIONS OF A CLOSET RAIDER

I have a confession to make. I've been shamelessly raiding Emil's closet for years, and he... well, he's been pretending he is ok with it. At first, it was a few t-shirts here and there, I'd borrow them to wear around the house and to sleep in, but with time, I started making full use of his sartorial splendor by borrowing everything from shirts ( this used to be his favorite plaid shirt, and now it's my favorite plaid shirt ), sweaters, jackets ( asked to wear this cute varsity number once, and now it proudly hangs on my side of the closet ), and even jeans. Actually, especially jeans, because some of my favorite boyfriend jeans used to be his... he he

Now, this brings me to today's outfit and the latest gem I borrowed stole from him. I've had my eye on these Dior Homme sunnies ever since he got them a few months ago. Unfortunately, given my track record, his been keeping pretty close tabs on them. That is until a few weeks ago, when I casually asked to borrow them for a shoot and he totally fell for that:) Ever since then, they mysteriously complete every outfit unlike any other pair of sunglasses I currently own, so I keep "borrowing" them:) Now, I wouldn't call them my Dior sunnies just yet, but I'm pretty confident we'll get there soon enough! :)

CROCHET CROP

Every once in a while, I come across something so special, I simply cannot resist the urge to get it in all colors and variations imaginable! You may remember a dress version of the top I'm wearing in today's look from a recent post. Well, I love the dress so much that when I spotted a similar-looking crop top, I just had to have it! Perfect little summer number to wear with just about everything from jeans to denim cut-offs, I think what I love about it the most is the color! A huge fan of red in general, I adore the way this particularly vibrant shade pairs with my favorite blues and caramels!

For today's look, I paired it with cute One Teaspoon shorts ( last seen here& here ) and tasseled espadrilles which happen to be my go-to pair at the moment because not only are they absolutely gorgeous but really comfortable as well. And though in the past I've been know to sacrifice comfort for style, lately I've been choosing styles I can actually run around in more and more. Perhaps I'm getting older and wiser, but one thing is for sure, my feet are definitely happy with the new comfortable shoes options! :)

VL TRAVEL: OJAI CALIFORNIA

After a few particularly busy weeks ( we're finalizing a big trip coming up in the next 2 weeks, getting ready for Fashion Month in September, and of course working on new content for VivaLuxury ), Emil and I reached a tipping point and decided that we needed to leave the hustle and bustle of LA for a little while.

We didn't want to travel somewhere far, and after considering a few of our all time favorites like Laguna Beach ( see our recent adventures here ) and Santa Barbara ( check out a recent post on our favorite SB wineries here ), we decided to try something new and headed to Ojai.

Just a quick drive from LA, we fell in love with Ojai the moment we saw it! The city is absolutely gorgeous, yet I think what we enjoyed about Ojai the most is the multitude of activities it offers like hiking, biking, dining, wine tasting and shopping of course! :) So, if you're considering a trip to Ojai, I definitely recommend it! There is so much to do and see, you won't be disappointed!

LITTLE WHITE LACE

Good morning and happy Saturday, Everyone! I just wanted to say a quick hi and share a few images of one of my favorite little white dresses at the moment. Though I am definitely partial to white dresses in general, something about the casual ease of this particular one, really appeals to me.

Yet another one of those dresses you can dress up or down depending on occasion, for today's look, I chose to pair it with pretty espadrilles ( also obsessed with this pair& this one ) and my Chloe Inez bag ( last seen here& here ), which I've been wearing with pretty much everything this summer because it completes every look in the most wonderful way! Hope you don't mind seeing it so much!:)

P.S. Hope you having a wonderful weekend!

MY STYLE MOTTO

$
0
0

When it comes to style, I have but a single motto I adhere to religiously - wear only what feels good on, and what makes you feel good! What I mean by feels good on is that comfort is always at the top of my priorities. I can't imagine feeling good wearing something that isn't comfortable.

I have to admit that in the past, I've made a mistake of buying pieces that had great hanger appeal but weren't necessarily comfortable, and all of them suffered the same fate. After a few futile attempts to convince myself I could get over itchy fabric or restricting silhouettes, I would eventually give up and move those pieces to the back of my closet, where they would remain never to be worn again. So eventually, I learned my lesson! If it doesn't feel good on, I don't buy it!

The making me feeling good part has more to do with my sartorial preferences. I am sure you can agree that we all have certain pieces we naturally gravitate towards because we simply can not help but love the way we look when we wear them. Well, I try to create a wardrobe filled with just those types of pieces because through trial and error I've learned that unless what you wear makes you feel good about yourself, you will not wear it!

Take EXPRESSflare jeans I am wearing in today's post for example, I've had them for a few weeks now and I simply cannot stop wearing them because of how comfortable they are. And the same goes for the patched girlfriend jeans! Super soft and light weight, they literally feel like you're wearing nothing at all! Yet as much as I appreciate how good they feel on, I absolutely love the way they fit!

I am a big believer in jeans that have a bit of stretch in them because I feel that they simply hug the body better and also retain their shape though the day, which is what I love about these 2 pairs because I've worn them on 8-hour road trips and they looked as good as they did in the morning when I first put them on! Naturally, I love that!

What about you guys, what's your style motto?

CHASING AWAY THE BLUES

$

Why is it that summers always fly by in a blink of an eye? As I was going through yet another batch of "back to school" entitled emails the other day, I honestly found it hard to accept that it's practically the middle of August and whether I like it or not, summer is drawing to an end, and fall is approaching fast... Can you believe it? I know I definitely can't!

Though I don't hate autumn in general, in fact, there are some great things about it, something about summer ending, always gets me a little blue. The one thing that makes this transition a little more fun is updating my wardrobe with a few fall-appropriate accessories ( after all, isn't shopping a cure for everything?:) And since a pair of shoes or a cute bag always make my day, I've been chasing away the blues by stocking up on a few pieces I can wear now and later!

Latest find and current obsession du jour are the NO. 21 Knotted leather pumps I am sporting in today's post! Aside from the fact that a pair of white pumps is always a must-have for me ( they brighten up every outfit imaginable and go with practically everything ), what I love about these particular ones is the intricate knotted detailing in the front. You know me, I like a special shoe and these babies are definite statement makers! Naturally, I'm obsessed!

The other recent find is the LOUIS VUITTON Capucines BB bag in Ciel. Though I kept going back and forth whether I should get it in this beautiful blue, or a more traditional autumn color, I finally decided to opt for color. I love the fact that it adds just the right dose of bright to my favorite black and white color palette and also works beautifully with grays and blues which is another color combination I wear a lot for fall! Fact that I can also pair it with my summer essentials is an added bonus! Love that!

HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR JEWELRY LIKE A PRO

$

It's been quite a while since I've done a post dedicated to how I like to store my jewelry. Well, almost 3 years to be exact ( see the previous one I've done here ). And so, as I was playing with my jewelry box the other day, I though it'd be fun to share a few tips and tricks I use to keep my collection of sparkly things organized.

TIP 1: A PRETTY JEWELRY CHEST IS A MUST
Not only will it add a beautiful design element to your vanity, jewelry boxes and chests are a great way to keep your items organized. Personally, I like to separate my jewelry by category ( earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces ) and also by metal color. This way, if I am looking for a particular pair of gold stud earrings, I know exactly where to find them. The beautiful Samantha Wills jewelry chest I got recently, features these convenient little compartments which are perfect for storing smaller pieces like earrings and rings, and also larger compartments, where I normally keep my bracelets and statement necklaces!

TIP 2: STORE THE PIECES YOU WEAR THE MOST SOMEWHERE YOU CAN ACCESS THEM EASILY
I will fully admit that not all the jewelry pieces I have in my collection get the same attention. I definitely have my favorites, which I tend to wear the most. Rather than storing them in my jewelry chest, I picked up a few cute little glass jewelry storage cloches from Pottery Barn which are perfect for  storing a few bracelets and rings.

TOP 3: STORE YOUR NECKLACES ON A JEWELRY TREE
The one thing I hate the most is tangled necklaces. In the past, it seemed like regardless of how careful I was placing them in my jewelry box, next morning I would be dealing with a tangled mess. And the more necklaces I got, the bigger the mess became. Well, that is until I picked up a jewelry tree ( similar version in gold here, and wall mounted option here ) and that problem became a thing of the past. Oh, and the added bonus is the fact that the tree adds a really charming design element!

Hope you enjoyed these tips! Happy weekend, Everyone!

Good morning and happy Monday, Everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I got the dress I'm wearing in today's post a few weeks ago to take to Italy with me, but just couldn't resist wearing it a bit early! You know me, I have absolutely zero self control when it comes to waiting to wear something new and cute. So, when Emil and I got an invitation to a casual dinner party, I figured that a cute white mini was the perfect thing to wear!

Though in the past, I would have definitely opted to wear a pair of heels when I went out, lately it's been all about flats for me, and these perforated lace-up babies are definitely my go-to pair at the moment. Comfy and cute, what I love about them so much is the fact that I can easily pair them with a casual look ( such as this one  or this one for example ) or a dresser option like the one I'm wearing today.

To complete the look I added a black and white J.W. ANDERSON bag - or as I like to call it, obsession du jour! I've had my eye on this style for a while now, but when I came across a black and white version, it was game over! Obviously obsessed with the color combo, but more than anything else, I love how striking this bag is! Something about black and white color combo, always adds a bit of drama to your look, and this bag makes even the simplest outfits appear polished and pulled together, and given my propensity for clean and simple outfits, I am naturally smitten!

Good morning, Everyone! Just wanted to say a quick hello and share a few images of this casual outfit I wore in Malibu recently. Most of what I'm wearing in this post you've seen before, especially these One Teaspoon shorts ( previously worn here& here ) and my Chloe Inez bag ( last spotted here ) which I've been wearing pretty much non stop all summer long, but the mint crop top is brand new and already well on it's way to becoming of of my favorites. Obviously love the color! You know me, I'm obsessed with mint! But also, love the off-the-shoulder/on-the-shoulder option which sort of makes it two tops in one:)!

For today's look, I paired it with denim cut-offs and cute fringe espadrilles, but I also love the way it looks with dressier bottoms like white cropped wide-leg pants or tailored mini skirts. Basically, when it comes to this top, styling options are absolutely endless, and of course you know how much I love that!

4 SHOE STYLES TO BUY THIS FALL

$

As I was organizing and updating my wardrobe with a few fall staples, I started thinking about which particular fall shoe styles I tend to wear the most. Despite the abundance of cute shoes out there, there were exactly 4 styles that came to mind right away. What is it that makes these particular styles my staples? Well, I think that it's really important to have a versatile shoe wardrobe complete with timeless pieces that make you look effortlessly pulled together and add a perfect finishing touch to any fall outfit, and these 4 pairs do exactly that! And so, since I haven't done a must have shoe post for this season yet, I thought it'd be fun to talk about the 4 pairs I will be practically living in this autumn.

1. OVER-THE-KNEE-BOOTS
Or as I like to call them, wear with anything boots! From skinny denim and minis, to long coats and maxis, there is literally no wrong way to wear these boots! Last year, I ended up practically living in them the entire season because of how comfortable and stylish they are! This year, I went with the TIELAND, a style inspired by one of my favorite boots of all time - the HIGHLAND! Aside from the fact that I absolutely love this vibrant shade of navy, the block heel makes these boots so comfortable I can run around in them all day without ever getting tired. Naturally, I love that!

2. SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS
A pair of boots that will serve you well year-round, suede ankle boots are probably one of the most versatile boot styles to have in your closet! Personally, I like to opt for a neutral-hued option and a comfortable heel because I feel that this particular combination works best with everything from dresses to jeans. Today, I paired my BACARI boots with distressed skinny jeans and a crochet blouse to give this outfit a casual yet pulled together feel.

3. DENIM STILETTOS
A great transitional sandal style, denim gives this staple a really clean and modern look and feel! Personally, I love pairing denim sandals with flowy shirt dresses for day and structured separates for night. The MYEX stiletto I'm sporting in today's look is one of my favorite pairs at the moment. Sexy and stylish, I love the way these pair with shorter hems to elongate the leg and add just a touch of glamour to your look.

4. BLOCK-HEEL SANDALS
Yet another great example of a perfect transitional shoe option, what I love about block heel sandals in general, is how comfortable yet stylish and elegant they are! I suggest pairing them with this season's cropped flare denim to add just a bit of lift to your look. Today, I am sporting one of my current favorites - Stuart Weitzman's NEARLYNUDE sandal in a beautiful dark metallic shade. I particularly love how versatile this shade is because it works with just about any fall color combo imaginable and also the way they add just the right touch of sparkle and sophistication to your outfit.

Of all the off the shoulder numbers I wore this summer ( some recent appearances here& here ), the Star Eyes top I'm sporting in today's post is definitely a favorite! Love the shirred, ruffle sleeves and the super easy silhouette, but I think that it's the little pearl detail that makes it so special to me.

Another reason it's been on heavy rotation this summer is because it pairs with dressy and casual bottoms equally well. So cute with anything denim, I also love the way it looks with tailored bottoms and strappy heels for a slightly more polished, dressy look ( paired with tailored shorts in this look )!

For today's off-duty casual outfit, I went with denim cut-offs and block-heel sandals, and changed into tailored shorts and ankle-tie sandals when Emil and I went our for dinner that night. And of course you know how much I like it when I can wear something in a variety of ways, and this top is definitely one of those items! Love that!

HIGH RISE IN ROME

I have always loved skinny jeans and my current obsession du-jour is the high-rise version. Aside from the fact that they do a great job creating a very long and lean silhouette and they pair really well with most tops, from crop tops to button downs, especially if you leave a few buttons open at the bottom, the way I did in this look, in partnership with Lucky Brand.

If you guys follow me on Instagram, you may already know that Ninel and I spent a few days in Rome last week before catching a train to Venice. Though, we only had 2 full days to explore this beautiful city, we made it our priority to see as much of Rome as possible! So after taking a Colosseum tour, visiting the Spanish Steps, indulging in some delicious gelato by the beautiful Trevi fountain, we decided to take a path less traveled, and simply walk around Rome exploring all the beautiful little streets! So, we spent the entire day on Tuesday doing just that, and I have to say that I'm really glad we did, because we ended up stumbling across wonderful restaurants, great little shops and the cutest-looking rustic coffee place called Angelinas Cafe which serves the best coffee and deserts! I highly recommend trying tiramisu because it is seriously out of this world amazing!

Since I knew we were going to be walking around all day in Rome, I wanted to wear something cute yet comfortable, so I went with a pair of high-rise skinny jeans, a flowy silk blouse and a pair of comfy, strappy sandals.

What I love about this pair of Lucky Brand jeans is the wash, and also the raw hem which gives them a slightly edgy, modern vibe. I paired my high-rise skinnies with a silk flowy blouse in the prettiest shade of pink to give this outfit just a touch of casual ease! Finishing touches like strappy sandals, a cross-body bag and a pair of shades completed the look for a full day of exploring!

Thank you to Lucky Brand for partnering with me on this post.
