Today, I’m talking about a super easy 2021 makeup trend to copy right now, i. e. the colored eyeliner! Rules? Absolutely none! Basically the brighter, the better!
To me, the eyes definitely have the spotlight in 2021! Although, 2021 is offering quite a few fun eye makeup trends: from colored eyelashes (loving the cobalt mascara look), to pops of bright eyeshadow (yellow tones especially) the colored eyeliner, is probably my personal favorite. Today, I’m going to show you how easy it is to create this look. Bonus points: although you can definitely splurge on a few brightly-colored eyeliners, truly, you can use bright eyeshadow to recreate this look.
For today’s shimmering burgundy eyeliner look, I used the Le 9 de Givenchy Eyeshadow Palette. After applying an eyeshadow base (this is the one I use the most), I applied the shimmering frosty white shade (top right corner of the palette) all over my lid to create a base for my eyeliner. The silvery-white shade creates a rather striking contrast to accentuate the bright eyeliner even more. A personal trick of mine, but it seems to work, so normally, I use this shade in combination with bright eyeliners. For my eyeliner, I used MAC 210 Precise Eyeliner Brush (my favorite eyeliner brush if you want to get a very precise line) and if you want the color to really pop, make sure to wet the brush first. To get this color, I mixed the 2 burgundy shades (bottom right corner). Working with shadows and wet brushes is rather reminiscent of working with a gel eyeliner, which is why I started at the outer corner by creating a small triangle, then dragged the brush across the lash line, making sure to narrow the line the closer I got to the inner corner.
Clean up? Super easy! First, I highly recommend doing your eye make up first, especially if you’re going to go shadow heavy or work with bright colors. Dip a Q-tip into some eye makeup remover and clean up your under eye area first, next, clean up the corners of your liner since you want them to be super sharp. Finally, once you have your base on, you can accentuate the corners even more with a bit of a concealer.
Another micro makeup 2021 trend is super clean skin. What does that actually mean? It means we’re going for a natural looking not overly done skin (basically my entire make up philosophy). I love wearing tinted moisturizers instead of a full-coverage foundation. The look is always so much more natural, which is why I love the Teint Couture City Balm. However, a real game changer for me and a recent discovery is the Prisme Primer in Green. You see, I have quite a bit of redness around my cheeks and nose and a tinted moisturizer doesn’t always offer enough coverage to mask the redness. I tried the Prisme Primer in Green (green t0tally cancelled the redness and covered it up no problem) and followed with the Teint Couture City Balm and my skin looked flawless. However, it still looked like skin and didn’t have that I have a very heavy foundation on look to it. The Prisme Libre Setting Powder its another new discovery. It seriously has a cult following and I am not sure why I haven’t tried it until now but it’s awesome! Honestly, a good powder is a game changer. It helps to set your foundation in place and more than anything else perhaps, helps to create a very natural-looking finish.
Which 2021 makeup trend do you want me to do next? The Dolphin skin, the graphic eyeliner or colored mascara?
