Cozy in Carmel

If you’ve been following my blog for a sometime now, you may already know that a January family road trip along the southern California coastline ( last one here & here ), has been an ongoing tradition for the past few years. Tough we’ve taking this trip so many times, somehow, we never fail to discover something new and amazing to love, and come back to LA full of new memories of beautiful sunsets, incredible ocean views, and stunning California coastline!

This time around, we ended up driving directly to the charming Carmel by the Sea, and spent a few days exploring the town, wining, dining, shopping and picnicking at the beach. A big highlight was the 17 mile drive – a gorgeous 2 hour drive past scenic coastal views, the famous Pebble Beach, prettiest houses and plush golf courses! We’ve done the drive before, but this time around, we made sure to really take our time and make frequent stops to enjoy everything 17-mile drive has to offer. My recommendation is going there about an hour or two before sunset. Sunsets in Carmel are stunning in general, but watching as the sun set at the Love Cypress view point was so surreal and magical, we needed up coming back a few times just so that we could repeat the experience!

P.S. Special thank you to Lexus for the raddest ride in history! Though hubby and I ended up bickering most of the time as far as who gets to drive it goes, eventually we did come up with a pretty fair driving schedule! And yeah, I totally drove more!

Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas :: VivaLuxury Picks

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I thought It’d be fun to put together a little guide to give you a few V-Day outfit ideas and also, if head-to-toe-red happens to be a bit much for you, show different ways you can easily incorporate red into your looks without going over the top.

Personally, I am always a fan of a red dress, and this year is no exception of course! Typically, I look for something dramatic, elegant and timeless, yet also a type of a dress I could wear again and again. As you well know, versatility is extremely important to me. This year, the winning number comes from Bloomingdale’s, and it was pretty much love at first sight ( this particular style is sold out, similar options here & here and also on the widget at the bottom of the post ). Love the fitted strapless bodice, love the full asymmetric skirt, and especially love the pockets! Such a fun element on an otherwise very dressy dress. For today’s look, I chose to wear it with matching red strappy sandals. Though I do not typically match my shoes to my dresses, in this particular case, the combo works because it helps to elongate the silhouette and to create a a rather dramatic effect. I did consider going with a red clutch for a moment, but this cute “Love” one just seemed beyond perfect for the occasion, and did a great job breaking up the red a bit.

Another way I like to incorporate red into my Valentine’s Day outfit is with accessories! A classic red bag or a fun pair of red booties worn with an all-black look is always chic, polished and never over the top. Opt for a classic red manicure ( current favorite is Dior Vernis in Pandore ) or dramatic red lip to really drive the point home.

Last but not least is jewelry. Though normally, I like to layer smaller, daintier pieces, when it comes to dressier, Valentine’s Day looks, I tend to opt for a single statement piece like a pair of drop earrings ( love these ones and these ) or a dramatic bracelet stack. I find that statement jewelry tends to add to the dramatic look of an evening outfit but also, does not distract from the main event, which is the color red of course.

P.S. For more jewelry, accessory and pretty red dress options ( all under $200 ) scroll to the bottom of the page!

Beautiful Big Sur

Second stop on our annual family road trip was Big Sur. Though we kept going back and forth whether we should make the drive ( takes about 50 minutes to get from Carmel to Big Sur ), we did, and as always it was totally worth it! The drive is absolutely beautiful because it takes you along the gorgeous California coast line, and we make plenty of stops to enjoy the scenery and of course to take a few pics!

It’s funny, we made this dive so many times, yet it always feels fresh and new somehow, and never seizes to amaze you in a different way. I swear, I must have seen Bixby bridge at least a dozen of times, yet I could never pass on an opportunity to admire it again. Same yet oh-so-very-different, I could just stand there for hours looking at the water and the sky line…

P.S. Once again, special thank you to Lexus for outfitting us with the sickest ride! Thank you for making our favorite drive even more special!

Embracing Spring’s New Pastel Palette

Ice-cream colored everything was rather a big deal on Spring/Summer 2018 runways and personally, I couldn’t be happier. There is just something about these cheerful, pretty colors that make everything look and feel a little happier and brighter! Good thing, we really don’t have to wait to wear pastels until springs, because there are really simple ways of incorporating them into your wardrobe right now!

My number one choice of wearing ice-cream colored hues is outerwear. I love a pastel colored coat, or a puffer jacket. So good with pretty much any color palette imaginable ( love the way an all-black outfit benefits from a pastel-colored topper ), I prefer to pair pastels with softer, more feminine colors like winter white, soft gray and baby blue.

Another way is via accessories of course. A pastel colored shoe ( currently, obsessed with pastel colored sneakers ) or a cute hat ( YAS to lavender berets ) is a super simple way to inject a bit of softness into your winter looks which tend to employ darker, more somber color palette. For example, I love the way light pink brings a bit of softness to a look when worn with burgundy, or how cheerful soft yellow looks when paired with olive green or gray.

What about you guys, how do you feel about ice-cream colors for winter?

Though completely unplanned, when we got to Ventana in Big Sur, and saw the magical grounds, the charming safari-style tents, and wood-burning fire pits ( perfect for making smores ), we simply couldn’t resist spending a night glamping in style, enjoying the outdoors and experiencing the full splendor of Big Sur and Redwood Canyon.

I think, one of our biggest initial concerns was staying warm, especially at night, but we were perfectly warm under the cozy heated blankets and of course the wood-burning fire pit kept us from getting chilly while we set outside. Though we totally should have/could have cooked our dinner on the fire pit, I confess, we opted to order ours from Ventana. We were a bit tired ( lazy ), and we heard great things about the restaurant, which by the way did not disappoint, but couldn’t resist making scores ( a long standing family tradition and favorite pastime ).

Another pleasant surprise was the Bath House. Think teak-enclosed showers, heated floors and full hotel amenities! Honestly, we were hoping for a hot shower, but when we walked in and saw the marble vanities, organic bath products and fluffiest towels imaginable, we felt like we were in a glamorous spa, not camping in the middle of the woods! Power outlets and hair driers were also a very welcome surprise!

P.S. Special thank you to Lexus for the raddest ride in history! Thank you for making our annual road trip even more special!

Fringe Factor

I love fringe! Love the way it adds texture and dimension to outfits, but also how absolutely twirl-worthy, playful, and fun it is! Though personally, I feel that fringe never really goes out of style, this year in particular, it’s having quite a moment, making appearances on all things imaginable from coats, jackets, jeans, and dresses to accessories, like shoes and bags to name a few!

The pretty in pink fringe number I’m wearing today is my newest find and biggest obsession at the moment. Love the way this dress moves, loves the color ( not quite pink, not entirely lavender, but something in the middle ) and of course the cut, which tends to bring this dress to life with every step I take.

Though I have worn it with metallic strappy sandals and a clutch, lately I’ve been on a huge white booties kick, so for today’s look I chose to pair it with these pointy-toe lovelies I wear with pretty much everything these days. Like the way they tend to downplay the girliness of this dress but also, the way white makes this outfit feel “very spring”!

What about you guys, how do you feel about fringe?

Sporty Chic

Sporty but chic! I think those are the perfect words to describe today’s look, and I am all about this combination lately. Obviously my obsession with plaid continues, and now extends far beyond just blazers, jackets, and coats. When I spotted these plaid jogger pants, it was definitely love at first sight. I absolutely adore the sporty drawstring waist, cuffed ankles, and green stripes on the sides; what can I say, I am a total sucker for details!

I decided to pair them with a green off-the-shoulders sweater. Still pretty casual but open shoulders take away from the sportiness of the pants to create a perfect balance! Aside from that, the reason why I love this particular pairing is because I am more than a bit partial to plaid combined with kelly green. Bright, cheerful and fun, it’s definitely one of those classic pairings that never really goes out of style, yet somehow feels fresh and new whenever it happens to be in the spotlight.

As far as accessories, I went with my favorite pair of white pumps to elevate the look and bring the “chic” to the “sporty.” I’ve been obsessed with white shoes for a while now—anything from boots and pumps, to flats and sneakers, I can’t seem to stop shopping for them. White footwear goes with everything, somehow manages to be completely seasonless because it works great with summer’s lighter and brighter color palette, yet adds just a touch of cheer to my beloved navy, burgundy and gray winter staples. Love that!

Ultimate Beach Getaway Packing List

I’ll be the first to admit that my packing game was not always strong. In fact, up until very recently, sporadic would have been the best word to describe how I approached packing, which often resulted in me bringing way more things than I actually needed, and/or forgetting to take some of the things I would now consider my absolute beach getaway must haves. Well, practice does make perfect I suppose, because in time, I’ve learned that when it comes to packing smart, versatility is definitely the best way to go! So, without further ado, here is my absolute must-take, can’t do beach getaway right without, packing list.

Crop Top – so good with high-waisted shorts, maxi skirts and wraparounds, I love the fact that they can be easily styled and restyled for day or night. I often pair them with denim shorts or high-waisted bikini bottoms during the day, and switch to a dramatic maxi skirt for an evening out. Oh, and if I happens to be off-the-shoulder, well, that’s just icing on the cake!

Wear Anywhere Slides – comfort is key for me when it comes to vacation footwear, so a pair of cute flats is a must. Normally, I look for something with pretty little details, or embellishment to make them special enough for night, yet comfortable enough to run around during the day.

Cute Coverup – what I normally look for is something I can easily throw over a bikini during the day, yet something special enough I could wear to dinner at the beach at night.

Beach Bag – the right beach bag is an outfit maker for me. Since bags tend to take quite a bit of space in a suitcase, I try to limit how many I take to as few as possible, so I often opt for straw and rattan options in neutral colors which tend to work well with most of my beachy outfits!

White Maxi/Midi Dress – otherwise known as the dress I tend to live in during beach getaways. Pretty and practical, easy to wear and accessorize, I love a good white ( preferably eyelet ) dress because it looks equally relevant at dinner paired with dressier shoe and bag option, yet never fails to impress during the day thrown over a bikini and accessorized with a floppy hat and giant sunnies.

One Piece Wonder – aside from the fact that monokinis are having a bit of a moment right now, I love a one-piece suit because let’s face it, most of the time it doubles up as a top. So, yay to another top option! Never a fan of anything plain, when it comes to swimwear, fit is obviously a priority numero uno, but cut and special little details, tend to be a close second. Cute at the beach, cute for poolside cocktails paired with denim shorts and a floppy hat, basically cute all around, so what’s not to love.

Cult Gaia Ready to Wear

Although I love every aspect of my job, and feel very blessed to be doing what it is that I do for a living, one of the things that I enjoy the most, is being able to work with the brands that I truly love, respect and admire. My love affair with Cult Gaia began a little over 2 years ago and started with a single arc bag which became a staple that summer and “the bag” that accompanied me pretty much everywhere from cocktails to trips to Italy. With time, this love affair blossomed into a lasting relationship and an ongoing collaboration and today, I am very pleased to introduce some of my favorite pieces from Cult Gaia’s newly launched ready to wear line.

Why I love them? Esthetically speaking, you know I have a weakness for easy to wear separates that can be easily styled in an ensemble yet can hold their own when worn separately. The pieces I am wearing in today’s look are a great example of that. So good together, the cropped bra top looks just as fabulous worn with high-waisted denim, and I struggle to imagine a top that wouldn’t work well with this pretty white midi. But more than just versatility, what I love about these pieces is their sartorial appeal. Casually cool and easy to wear, yet undeniably chic and statement enough to make any look a little more special! Love that!

I am obsessed with denim! I am obsessed with denim because of what it is and because of what it does! I love denim for it’s versatility but also for it’s incredible ability to make you look and feel comfortable and stylish at the same time, which is probably why, whenever I think of casual favorites, denim is always the first thing that comes to mind.

The pair of L’Agence jeans I am wearing in todays post holds the number one spot on my favorite jeans list at the moment. Aside from fit ( totally skinny, high-waisted denim obsessed right now ), I love the wash, the distressing throughout, and the raw, frayed hem, which adds a nice edgy touch to some of my girlier/dresier looks. Love that.

Though I’ve worn them with just about everything in my closet ( last appearance here ), for today’s look, I’ve paired them with some of my newest finds and obsessions. Never not a fan of a good beret ( no bad hair days + a beret yields a sophisticated touch to even the simplest of looks ), I’ve been looking for one in this particular warm shade of beige for a while now, and was over the moon when I finally got it from Free People. The top I am wearing in today’s post is also a Free People find and I just can’t seem to get enough of it at the moment! So good with anything high-waisted, I love wearing it with more casual bottom options like distressed jeans for example, because I love the way it adds a romantic touch to an outfit thanks to the sweetheart neckline and the fitted body. Basically, today’s look is a combination of all my current favorites in a single outfit. Love when that happens!

Edgier Way to Wear Pink

The way Valentino put it: “Pink is Punk”, saying that it doesn’t have to be a sweet color. Personally, I believe that pink could be anything you want it to be, from girly and pretty, edgy and modern, to classic and sophisticated. It’s just one of those universally flattering chameleon of colors that can be styled to match whatever mood you happen to be in today.

At the moment, it is the edgier side of pink that happens to appeal to me the most, and the way I like to achieve this look is by combining it with slightly more fashion-forward, statement making pieces as opposed to something very soft and feminine. Take today’s look for example, I love the way glossy leather pants add a modern touch to this otherwise rather feminine Tibi pink number. Accessories play an equally important part. Small bags are all the rage at the moment, and I am more than a bit partial to the way this studded Alexander Wang bucket bag helps to dress this outfit down. Last but not least is footwear. A pair of strappy sandals, or perhaps sky-high stilettos would have certainly worked, but the mules once again add a slightly more modern twist on the look, and help to take it away from the girly and pretty territory! Love that!

What about you guys, how do you like to wear pink?

ErdemxNARS Strange Flowers Collection

It is no secret that I am a huge NARS fan. The Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is basically the only foundation I ever wear, and the Radiant Creamy Concealer has been my go-to on the daily basis for years now, but more than just great products, I think the reason why NARS resinates with me so much is because of their entire approach to beauty and make up in general.  Not unlike myself, NARS philosophy is rooted deeply in the idea that make up should perform in such a way that it enhances and conceals while remaining as understated as possible. More specifically, one should be complimented on how great they look, and not on how great their make up looks. Love that! Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with NARS on several occasions, but I can’t even begin to tell you just how excited I was when they reached out and invited me to London to get the first look at the gorgeous ErdemxNARS Strange Flowers collection collaboration!

As part of this collaboration, I not only got to attend the beautiful Erdem show, go backstage, which is always a favorite for me, but also try the products from the new collection for myself! Love at first sight and try, I still have a hard time deciding what it is I love more – the gorgeous packaging, the romantic, dream-like colors and fresh, unexpected textures, or the fact that the Strange Flowers collection happens to be the culmination of an ongoing collaboration between two of my favorite brands: Erdem and NARS!

Of course I have my favorites already! The Poison Rose palette is perfect for creating a variety of lip looks. The palette includes a cream-based nude color to use as a base and 4 different powder shades to play around with on top. Other favorites include the eyeshadow palettes that I’ve been using to create my smokey eye ( including one you see me wearing in this post ), and the Highlighting Pencil ( love the subtle glow it creates when used to highlight the inner corner and the brow bone ).

The collection will be available nation-wide in April and I can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself! Demure yet daring, bold yet subtle, I particularly love the unexpected shades and textures! Honestly, it’s quickly becoming one of my absolute favorites! Also, I will be wearing various products from the collection during Fashion Month, so if you have any question as far as colors or products are concerned, please ask them in the comments below! First time in Milan, first Milan Fashion Week and I must say, I love every second of it! We spent the first day running around town from fitting to fitting, playing tourist along the way ( doing a special post dedicated to favorite spots in Milan later this week, so stay tuned ), but Day 2 was pretty packed! The Day started with one of my all time favorites – Fendi. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know what a big fan of the brand I truly am ( recent sighting here ), so it was a dream come true to attend the show!

Always a fan of a statement piece and a single focal point, for my look for the Fendi show, I went with a brightly-colored plaid jacket and kept the rest of the outfit simple with all black separates and accessories. Love at first sight, what attracted me to this particular topper other than the color combination of course, was the cut and length. So good with any bottom imaginable, I love the way it paired with skinny leather pants. Finishing touches – satin ankle boots and a Peekaboo mini bag with a banana bag charm.

Collection Highlights of Day 2

Genny is among the designers who this year are embracing the sharp lines and slick metallics of 1980’s power dressing. Futuristic and fun, the Genny A/W 2018 collection is overt in doing what fashion is all about: a respectful smile for the past hand-in-hand with a playful nod to the future. Shoulder pads, polka-dot chiffon and monochrome geometrics dominated the Genny show this Thursday.

I absolutely adore my look for the Genny show – always a fan of pastels and great lengths, I love the proportions of this look ( floor length wide-legged pants, paired with knee-length trench coat ). Fact that I got to attend the show with my bestie Jenny from Margo and Me, in color coordinating outfits was definitely icing on the cake!

Fendi is throwing itself full throttle into the demure minimalism of the 1980’s Sloane. With the recent arrival of Middleton and Markle into the public psyche, so the fashion world has fallen in back in love with the Royals, and what better way to embrace these new icons than with an homage to the original contemporary princess – Diana. Fendi’s mid-length skirts, loose-hanging Dduffel coats, shoulder pads and preppy blazers demonstrate a femininity that is both playful and sincere.

A further standout from Milan’s second day was the bustling complexity of sequins with retro patterns and further nods to 80’s power-dressing with block magentas and turquoises from Emilio Pucci.

Vivetta stunned with playful plaid, polka dot pink suit jackets and sheer textured leggings while Luisa Beccaria exudes subtle femininity with intricate embroidery, muted tones and floaty ¾ length dresses reminiscent of Edwardian florals.
