In today’s post, I wanted to share yet another favorite travel destination, special memories, moments and highlights from our trip to Aspen with St Regis. It was our first time to Aspen, and honestly, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but the city captured our hearts the moment we got there. Magical, beautifully decorated for the Holidays, Aspen has this truly unique relaxed-chic vibe that I don’t think I’ve encountered anywhere else. And of course what made this trip even more special for us was our home-away-from-home, the gorgeous St Regis Aspen.
First, just a few words about the hotel itself. I think the best way to describe it is to say that it looks like something that came out of fairytale. Winter wonderland at its finest, it’s nestled right at the base of Aspen Mountains, so the view from our room was absolutely incredible. Incredibly chic and luxurious, we loved everything from the grand lobby complete with wood-burning fireplace, to our dreamy room decorated in with custom furnishings by Ralph Lauren. Inviting and relaxing, we just couldn’t resist staying in on a few mornings to try some of our breakfast favorites, and once again, the french toast and fresh-baked croissants come highly recommended!
Yet another special aspect 0f this trip was the St Regis Snow Polo World Championship. The event was just as glamorous as it sounds, complete with an incredible ski-lodge inspired VIP tent, chic cocktails and bites, celebrity crowd, and Kitty the St Regis resident Bernese. Though I’ve attended Polo matches before, what made Snow Polo so different is how close we were to all the action. Being able to see the game and the players up close really made a tremendous difference and made this experience even more exciting.
Since as I have mentioned earlier, St Regis has a beautiful history and many time-honored traditions, while in Aspen, we got to repeat and compare some of the rituals we’ve experienced in San Francisco but also encounter a few new ones. The first was of course the Bloody Mary ritual and St Regis Aspen’s delicious interpretation called Downhill Red Snapper which was absolutely perfect to enjoy cozied up by the fire while admiring the sweeping views of the Aspen mountains.
We also couldn’t resist taking part in The Evening Ritual once again. We were so impressed by the art of champagne sabering and the beautiful history of it while we were in San Francisco, we wanted to relive this experience in Aspen. Suffice to say, it did not disappoint! Taking place in a gorgeous courtyard overlooking the Aspen Mountains, after the ceremony, we proceeded to sip and savor our champagne by the fire which gave our evening truly magical feel.
Last but certainly not least was the Midnight Supper. A nod to Caroline Astor, the mother of John Jacob Astor IV, the founder of the St. Regis, this gorgeous, candle-lit dinner took place at the Conca del Sogno. A taste of Amalfi Coast in the heart of Aspen, since Nina and I both absolutely love Italian food, we utterly enjoyed the sea-to-table inspired cuisine. Naturally, I couldn’t write this post without mentioning skiing. Regardless of whether you’re an avid skier, a beginner, or simply a bit rusty like I am, what makes Aspen such an appealing skiing destination is the fact that there is definitely the right slope for you. Honestly, I felt a bit intimidated going skiing after such a long break (it’s been a few years) but the hotel recommended just the perfect place and an instructor, and I was hitting the slopes in no time at all! In fact, Nina and I enjoyed it so much, we ended up going skiing everyday we were there!
